Acting Lessons is a finished, choice-driven adult visual novel by Dr PinkCake, the developer of Being a DIK. It is a paid game at $9.99 on Steam (regular price, September 2026), also sold on GOG, with native Windows, Mac and Linux builds and an Overwhelmingly Positive Steam rating. Expect a 5 to 8 hour drama with many endings.

In short
It is a linear adult visual novel where you read, make choices and watch the consequences play out. The Steam page describes it as "a drama-filled adult Visual Novel (VN) with many different endings", and that is an accurate summary. There is no free roam, no grinding and no stat screen to manage.
The Acting Lessons game launched on Steam on July 25, 2019, and it is complete. As of September 2026 it holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating from 5,173 Steam user reviews, which is a rare result for an adult visual novel of this size.
The Acting Lessons visual novel comes from Dr PinkCake, who is better known today for the episodic college series Being a DIK. Both games are listed on our Dr PinkCake developer page. Where Being a DIK is long and ongoing, this one is the opposite: a single, finished story you can play in a weekend.
Most of your time is spent reading dialogue and picking responses. Those choices are the whole game, and the Acting Lessons Steam page is clear that they stack up: decisions you make "even early on, will permeate throughout the game and affect the people around you".

Because nothing is gated behind grinding, the pacing is set entirely by the story. That makes it an easy recommendation if you dislike sandbox visual novels, where you often spend more time clicking through locations than reading. The trade-off is replay value: the Steam page itself says it is a story "that many players only could find the strength to play once".
You play a heartbroken man with a background in cryptocurrency trading. He tells the story of a life-changing day when he met Megan, an aspiring actress who is down on her luck and needs help. Whether you help her turn things around, and whether you win her heart, is up to you.

The cast is small, which is part of why the writing lands. According to the Steam page, the main characters are:
| Character | Who she or he is |
|---|---|
| Megan | The aspiring actress at the center of the story |
| Melissa | Megan's childhood friend and a romance option |
| Leah | A nurturing nurse and a romance option |
| Rena | A blue-haired actress and a romance option |
| Liam | The protagonist's best friend, with his own storyline |
All characters are adults.
The tone mixes humor with heavy drama. The Steam content notice says the game includes depictions of sex, drugs and violence, and that it "does depict darker topics of real life". It also warns that the story is not intended for players going through a dark period of their lives. Take that seriously: players often describe the emotional side as the thing they remember most.

Like Being a DIK, it uses 3D rendered stills with animated scenes mixed in. The renders show their 2019 origins in places, but faces and expressions are strong, which matters in a game this dependent on drama. The 61-song soundtrack does a lot of work setting the mood between the light and heavy scenes.

There are two official stores:
| Store | Platforms | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Windows, macOS, Linux | $9.99 regular price (September 2026); no DLC listed |
| GOG | See the GOG page | Sold alone and in a bundle with Being a DIK Seasons 1-3 |
Both are official. Steam gives you achievements and trading cards; GOG is the pick if you prefer DRM-free installers or want the bundle with Being a DIK. Dr PinkCake also runs a Patreon, but since this game is finished, the stores are the simple route. Our adult games on Steam roundup covers similar store releases.
The Acting Lessons Mac build is official: Steam lists macOS alongside Windows and Linux. For general setup tips, see our guide to running adult games on a Mac.
No. It is a one-time purchase: $9.99 on Steam (regular price, September 2026), and it is also sold on GOG. Steam lists no DLC, so the base game is everything. We did not find an official free demo.
Buy and download it from Steam or GOG. Both handle installation and updates, and neither needs anything beyond your store account. Avoid "free full version" sites and re-uploads: they are not official, and we cannot say what is in those files. Our guide on whether Steam adult games are safe explains what the store does and does not check.
The game is finished and has been since its 2019 release. Official pages do not state a final version number, so we are not quoting one. Do not expect new content: Dr PinkCake's current work is Being a DIK. Steam and GOG deliver any maintenance builds automatically or through your library.
The Steam page describes it as a 5 to 8 hour visual novel. Replays to see other endings add to that.
The developer says it has "many different endings", decided by who you pursue, whether you stay faithful to Megan and how you treat your friend Liam. The official pages do not give an exact number.
Yes. It has been complete since its Steam release on July 25, 2019.
Yes. GOG sells it on its own and in a bundle with Being a DIK Seasons 1-3.
Yes. Steam lists native macOS support, along with Windows and Linux.
If you want a short, finished story with real emotional stakes, yes: it is $9.99 on Steam (regular price, September 2026) and one of the best-rated adult visual novels on the store. If you want long-term content or light fun, the length and the dark themes will work against it.
This is the easiest way into Dr PinkCake's writing: short, finished, cheap and genuinely affecting. It does one thing, tell a relationship drama with choices that count, and it does it better than most games in the genre. Go in knowing it gets dark. If you want more, the developer's longer series is next, and our adult visual novel guide has other story-first picks.
