The best NSFW games being made right now come from small creators funded by their players: Eternum and Harem Hotel for story, A House in the Rift for sheer content, Innocent Witches and Trials in Tainted Space for gameplay and a fast update pace. This list covers 13 indie games, with an honest note on what is free, what is finished and how often each one actually updates.
"Free public builds" means the current public version costs nothing; supporters on Patreon or similar platforms get newer versions first. Paid prices are regular prices checked in September 2026.
How we picked
Our overall list of the best adult games is the place to start if you want the most polished, newcomer-friendly titles. This list asks a different question: which games made by small, player-funded creators are worth your time, and which of them are still moving? Every pick runs on Windows, so this is also our shortlist of the best NSFW PC games from the indie scene, and most have Mac, Linux or Android builds too.
Made by independent creators. Solo developers and small studios that sell direct, through itch.io, their own sites, Patreon, SubscribeStar or Steam.
Update pace, checked. For games still in development, we looked at the latest public version and its date in the developer's own posts. A game that updates monthly ranks above an equally good one that updates yearly, all else being equal.
Free access. Most picks have a free public build. Paid picks are here because they are finished or close to it.
Story-first and gameplay-first, both. We tag every entry below as one or the other, because they suit very different players.
Player reception. itch.io ratings and Steam review summaries where they exist, written as what players say, not as fact.
One thing we did not reward: size of the promise. Plenty of indie adult games announce a huge scope and then stall. We weighed what is playable today.
In plain search terms, these are indie porn games, but the ranking here is about the creators and their update pace. If you want the games where explicit content is the main focus, whoever made them, see our explicit-first ranking.
Story-first. Eternum is the most complete-feeling unfinished game on this list. It is a linear, choice-based visual novel about a virtual-reality game that operates outside government regulation, mixing a mystery plot with a lot of humour. There is no sandbox to navigate, so you spend your time on the story, not on finding the next trigger.
Every public build is free on all four platforms, including Android, and Patreon and SubscribeStar supporters get versions early. The catch is pace: version 0.9 went public in January 2026, and recent versions have arrived roughly once a year. Players often split on the constant meta jokes. Our Eternum review has the version history and download sizes.
Best for
Players who want a high-production story and are happy to wait a year between chapters.
Story-first, with systems. Harem Hotel is one of the best-rated creator-funded games on itch.io, at 4.8 out of 5 from more than 8,600 ratings. You inherit a hotel in a fantasy world with a history of conquest and inequality, and running it brings you into contact with 18 characters, each with their own storyline. Stats, traits, outfits and hotel upgrades sit around the story.
It has been in development since 2017 with no end date, and releases are slow: the devlog shows version 0.19 going from preview in March 2025 to patch notes in September 2025. The downloads are large and hosted off itch.io. It also includes training and dominance themes, so check that before you start.
Best for
Players who like a big cast, a real setting and some light management between story beats.
Gameplay-first sandbox. A House in the Rift is the clearest example of how the creator scene releases games. There are three tiers at once: a free public build on itch.io (0.8.12), a paid Premium version on itch.io (0.8.14) and Patreon early access (0.8.15). You pay for how early you want the content, not for access to the game.
The game itself is a sandbox visual novel set in a house shared with a succubus and a growing cast from other realms. The developer cites 200+ story events and monthly updates, and it is rated 4.7 out of 5 from nearly 2,900 ratings on itch.io. Expect 11 GB downloads on PC and Mac, and players often say the sandbox navigation makes it hard to track progress.
Best for
Players who want regular new content and don't mind exploring to find it.
Gameplay-first adventure. Innocent Witches is a comedic adult parody of the Harry Potter setting, and it plays like an old-school point-and-click adventure, with inventory puzzles and quests modelled on games like Monkey Island. Some chapters open up into a sandbox mode, and story segments play as a visual novel.
It is one of the most active projects here: the devlog posted roughly every 10 days in 2026. Public builds are free, including a browser version, and the itch.io page states no generative AI was used. Supporter builds are well ahead of the public one (0.12.1 against 0.11.6), players often say the puzzles are obscure without the official wiki, and as a parody of someone else's property it isn't on major storefronts like Steam. The content includes corruption, BDSM and humiliation themes; all characters are presented as adults.
Best for
Adventure game fans who enjoy puzzles and parody humour.
Gameplay-first RPG. Trials in Tainted Space from Fenoxo has had more than 10 years of development, and it shows: the amount of content is enormous. You play the heir to a galactic corporation, exploring ships, stations and planets on a grid map with turn-based combat and deep character customization.
It updates constantly, with multiple changelogs per month in 2026 and the latest public build (0.9.165) out on September 11, 2026. Some content is marked Backer Exclusive before it goes public. It is very text-heavy with limited art, and players often find it sprawling for newcomers. It plays in a browser or on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. The content is kink-focused throughout, though many fetishes can be toggled.
Best for
Readers who want a huge, constantly growing RPG and care more about writing than art.
Gameplay-first sandbox. Summertime Saga is the elder statesman of Patreon-funded adult games: free to download, publicly available since 2016, and still in development. It is a point-and-click town sandbox with a large cast and many mini-games.
It also shows the downside of long projects. The official site says updates come every few months on average, and the team is running a stable build alongside an HD remaster preview branch that currently has less content. New players should start on the stable build.
Best for
Anyone who wants the most established free sandbox and doesn't mind a slow update cycle.
Gameplay-first RPG. Lilith's Throne is free, open source on GitHub, and supported through SubscribeStar. It is a text RPG set in a demon-ruled alternate London, with tile-map exploration, turn-based combat and an extremely granular body and character customization system.
What sets it apart from other text RPGs is its content-preference settings: much of its wide fetish range can be switched off. The developer still calls it alpha, with bugs and half-finished content, and Mac and Linux players have to install Java and JavaFX themselves. The latest public version (0.4.11.9) came out on September 10, 2026.
Best for
Players who want fine control over both their character and the content they see.
Story-first, with systems. Seeds of Chaos is a dark fantasy visual novel with CRPG-style systems, where a former hero is forced to serve the demons he once fought. Choices branch the story, and castle management and a world map sit around it. It is the first part of a planned trilogy.
It has been in Steam Early Access since January 2020, which is a long time, but version 0.9.1 (August 2026) added a proper ending and epilogues, and 1.0 is described as close. The content warnings are serious: NTR, sexual violence and dubious consent are part of it. Steam reviews are Mostly Positive, and players often mention the slow update pace over its long development.
Best for
Dark fantasy fans who want a branching story and can handle heavy themes.
Gameplay-first RPG. Corruption of Champions II is the more structured, party-based follow-up to Fenoxo's original, made by Salamander Studios. It is funded through Patreon and SubscribeStar, playable for free as a public browser build, and sold in Early Access on Steam with the full content included.
For this list's angle, the key point is cadence: there were multiple public patches per quarter in 2026, with 0.9.8 out on September 19. The story is still unfinished (Act 3 is in progress, per the developer blog), and like the other text RPGs here it is very text-heavy.
Best for
Players who want a text RPG with more quest structure and a Steam version that just works.
Gameplay-first sandbox. Milfy City is here as a Patreon-backed project that made it to the finish line. Its creator runs a Patreon where supporters get early builds, and the Final Edition (1.0e) is sold on Steam, with over 10,000 images and 800+ animated scenes per the store page. You get around an interactive city map, receive text messages from characters and solve puzzles that gate story steps.
Steam reviews are Mostly Positive, and players often call it grindy and unclear about what to do next without a walkthrough. Our Milfy City review has more on what the Final Edition includes.
Best for
Sandbox fans who prefer a finished game and don't mind using a walkthrough.
Story-first. Once in a Lifetime is Caribdis's first game, finished in July 2021 and free on all four platforms. It is a linear supernatural mystery with multiple endings, and it is the best way to try this developer before committing to the long wait for Eternum.
Players often describe it as shorter and less polished than Eternum, with older render quality. Some endings include family-relationship themes.
Best for
Players who want a complete, free story from a proven indie creator.
Story-first, open world. HARDCODED from Ghosthug Games is the most distinctive game on this list. You play an android who has escaped her owners and is hiding in a lawless cyberpunk city, where she joins a queer private-detective gang. The developer describes it as largely about the trans experience of transition, and the writing is trans-positive and queer-focused.
It is complete, it has hand-drawn pixel art, and relationships can turn physical at any stage with no meter to grind. Hundreds of outfit pieces, apartment decoration and duo paths that combine two characters' stories add plenty to do. It is very explicit, and the Steam content notes list BDSM, intoxication and self-harm themes.
Best for
Players looking for queer stories and an open world instead of a menu of routes.
Gameplay-first sandbox. Taffy Tales Redux is a from-scratch remake of UberPie's long-running Patreon game, with new pixel art and a revised story. It is a town sandbox with branching character storylines and an optional alternative path that you choose deliberately and can't trigger by accident. Season 2 arrived in May 2026, and Season 3 is in development.
It ranks last because reception is unsettled: Steam reviews are Mixed, the itch.io pages disclose AI-assisted graphics, which some players dislike, and fans of the original are divided over the rewrite. Free demos on itch.io and Steam make it easy to judge for yourself.
Best for
Pixel-art fans who want a sandbox with a choice of tone, and are happy to try the demo first.
Nearly all of the 18+ games on this list follow the same pattern. The creator posts new builds to paying supporters first, then releases them publicly for free some time later. A House in the Rift shows the full ladder: public, Premium and Patreon versions all exist at once, each a step newer than the last. Innocent Witches and Trials in Tainted Space work the same way with supporter-only or Backer Exclusive content.
Three things are worth knowing before you pay anyone:
You are buying time, not the game. The public build is usually the same game, a version or two behind.
Cancelling is simple. On Patreon, memberships are cancelled from Settings, then the Memberships tab. Depending on the creator's billing model, you either lose access right away or keep it until the next billing date.
Only download from the creator. Official links are on the creator's itch.io page, website or Patreon posts. Avoid re-upload sites.

Finished and not waiting on anything: HARDCODED, Milfy City and Once in a Lifetime. The best-known episodic game of all, Being a DIK, also gives Patreon supporters early access to new episodes; it sits on our overall list rather than this one because it is the obvious mainstream pick.
Story-first or gameplay-first?
The biggest divide in indie adult games is not art style or setting. It is whether you are reading a story with choices, or playing a game where the story is a reward. Pick your side before you download 11 GB of anything.
Story-first: Eternum, Once in a Lifetime, Harem Hotel, Seeds of Chaos, HARDCODED. You make choices and read; progress is steady. Eternum and Once in a Lifetime are the best NSFW visual novels here if you want a linear story with no sandbox to navigate. Our guide to adult visual novels has more in this style.
Gameplay-first, sandbox: A House in the Rift, Summertime Saga, Milfy City, Taffy Tales Redux. You explore a map and trigger events. Expect to look things up.
Gameplay-first, adventure: Innocent Witches. Puzzles gate the story.
Gameplay-first, RPG: Trials in Tainted Space, Lilith's Throne, Corruption of Champions II. Mostly text, with combat and character building.
Best NSFW games on Steam and itch.io
Five picks here are sold on Steam: Seeds of Chaos, Corruption of Champions II, Milfy City, HARDCODED and Taffy Tales Redux. Adult-only games on Steam are filtered by the mature content settings in your store preferences, so if you only buy there, our Steam adult games list is the better starting point. Most of the rest live on itch.io or the creator's own site, where builds are sold or given away directly.
