In short

  • What it is: a from-scratch remake of UberPie's long-running Patreon game, told in seasons, set in a small university town you explore freely.
  • Who it's for: players who like sandbox visual novels with many characters, pixel art and choices, and who want an opt-in rather than forced drama route.
  • Price: Season 2 is $24.99 on Steam; Season 1 and Season 2 are $25 each on itch.io (September 2026). Free demos on both stores.
  • Platforms: Windows and Mac on Steam, with full controller and Steam Deck support; itch.io adds Android (and Linux for Season 1).
  • Big pro / big con: generous input options and an optional path that never triggers by accident, but a Mixed Steam rating and AI-assisted graphics that some players dislike.

What is Taffy Tales Redux?

It is a choice-driven adult visual novel with sandbox exploration, made and published by UberPie. The original Taffy Tales was a Patreon-funded game updated for years; Redux replaces it with new art and a revised story, released in seasons. Steam sells Taffy Tales Season 2, "The Morning After", which launched there on May 28, 2026. Season 1 is sold on itch.io as the Community Edition.

The quick answer for buyers: this is an ongoing, episodic project, not a finished game. You buy seasons separately, and the story continues in Season 3, which the developer is building now.

Community opinion on Steam is split. The summary reads "Mixed" across 199 user reviews as of September 2026, and a common theme is that fans of the original are divided over the rewrite.

Gameplay

Taffy Town is your sandbox. You move between locations on a town map, meet characters and follow each one's branching storyline. The game is a visual novel at heart, so reading and choosing is most of what you do.

How it works

  • Free roaming. The town map is the hub. Homes, shops, the clinic and other locations each hold characters and events.
  • A large cast. The store page promises dozens of characters, each with secrets and branching storylines.
  • Real choices. You decide whether to be the mastermind pulling strings or let events play out.
  • Your alter ego. A sarcastic, reckless version of yourself comments on everything and pushes the more devious options.

The main storyline and the alternative path

Early on, the game asks you to pick one of two directions. The main storyline has you team up with your darker side and bend the city to your will. The alternative path is a heavier story of betrayal and heartbreak, and it includes the cuckolding/NTR content.

The developer is explicit that this path is 100% optional and "never triggered by accident": it takes a conscious choice. That is a thoughtful design decision in a genre where players often complain about surprise routes.

Story

You play a university student in the small city of Taffy Town who has had little luck socially. After one chaotic night, you wake to find a bolder alter ego looking back at you from the mirror. With this uninhibited partner, you set out to uncover the town's secrets and reshape it into your personal playground.

Season 2 picks up that premise and, by the developer's own account, grew much bigger than originally planned. The tone is comic and mischievous on the main route, with the heavier drama kept on its own path.

Steam's content descriptors say all characters are over the age of 20 and that all encounters are consensual, while noting that some scenes show initial hesitation that could be read as dubious consent. The content also includes consensual BDSM, femdom, group scenes and sex toys.

Main features

  • A from-scratch remake of the original Patreon game, with new art and a revised story
  • Pixel art throughout, from the town map to character scenes
  • An opt-in alternative path that cannot be triggered by accident
  • Input options on Steam: full controller support, keyboard-only, mouse-only and touch-only modes, and no timed input
  • Steam Deck: the developer announced full Steam Deck compatibility in June 2026
  • Languages: Steam lists eight (English, Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, French, Italian and Korean); the Season 2 itch.io page lists ten

Visual style

This is detailed, modern pixel art rather than the chunky retro kind. Backgrounds are warm and busy, characters are drawn large in dialogue, and the town map reads like a small model city. The Taffy Tales itch.io pages disclose that graphics are AI-assisted. Some players dislike that, so it is worth knowing before you buy.

What the Taffy Tales Steam version contains

Season 2 with its adult content. No patch is needed: Steam's content descriptors describe explicit sexual content in the Steam build itself. Season 1 is not on Steam, so if you want to start from the beginning, itch.io is the route. For more games that are uncensored as sold, see our adult games on Steam list.

Platform notes

  • Mac: the Taffy Tales Mac build on Steam needs macOS 10.12 or newer and runs on Apple Silicon or Intel. Our guide to adult games on a Mac covers first-launch prompts for itch.io downloads.
  • Android: both seasons have Android builds on itch.io. Steam does not sell mobile builds.
  • Linux: only Season 1 on itch.io lists Linux.
  • Steam Deck: announced as fully supported by the developer in June 2026. We have not seen Valve's own Deck rating for it.

Is Taffy Tales free?

No, but you can try it free. Each season is a paid purchase: Season 2 costs $24.99 on Steam, and each season is $25 on itch.io (regular prices, September 2026). Free demos are available on Steam and on both itch.io pages. UberPie also runs Patreon and SubscribeStar pages, linked from itch.io; see our explainer on how Patreon-funded adult games release if you are weighing that route.

Is it safe to download?

Buy from Steam or UberPie's official itch.io pages. Those are the developer's own channels, and Steam handles updates automatically. The game needs no account. Avoid unofficial re-uploads: we cannot say what is in those files, and they will not get the developer's fixes. The Steam vs itch.io comparison explains the trade-offs between the two stores.

Final verdict

Taffy Tales Redux is a busy, good-humoured sandbox visual novel with a large cast, a genuinely optional darker route and some of the best input options we have seen in an adult game. It is also unfinished, split across paid seasons, and divisive among long-time fans. Start with a free demo. If it clicks, compare it with other adult visual novels, or read our Summertime Saga review and Milfy City review for two other town-based sandboxes. Everything else is in the catalog.
