Monster Girl Island Review

Monster Girl Island is a first-person 3D adventure by solo studio Redamz: you wake up on an island full of monster girls, explore it freely and build relationships through branching dialogue. The only part you can play officially is the free Prologue on Steam, for Windows, which the developer says covers roughly a third of the main story. The full game is unfinished and will be paid.

In short

  • What it is: a free, explicit 3D exploration and dating game set on an island of fantasy and sci-fi monster girls.
  • Who it's for: players who like walking around a 3D world and meeting characters, and who are happy with a large but incomplete slice of a game.
  • Price: the Prologue is free on Steam. The full game is planned as a paid release.
  • Platforms: Windows 10, 64-bit only.
  • Big pro / big con: "Very Positive" from more than 16,000 reviews, but the full release is not out and its progress is hard to track publicly.

What is Monster Girl Island?

It is an adventure game made and published by Redamz. What you download today is Monster Girl Island: Prologue, released on Steam on June 19, 2019. The developer describes it as a standalone introduction to a larger game that "won't be free and won't be finished for a while", and says he had been working on the project for more than three years at launch.

The Prologue has a large following. Its Steam summary reads "Very Positive", with 95% of 16,766 user reviews positive as of September 2026.

Gameplay

You play in first person on a fully 3D island. The store page describes no combat: you wander the town, beaches and forests, find residents and talk to them. Conversations offer multiple dialogue choices, and those choices lead to branching events and closer relationships.

What you do on the island

  • Explore: the island is open to roam, and Steam users tag the game as open world.
  • Meet the residents: each monster girl has her own personality, location and conversations.
  • Choose what to say: dialogue choices and branching events decide how relationships develop.
  • Shop for costumes: a costume shop is built in, and the developer stresses there are no microtransactions.
  • Small touches: the store also promises a smartphone with no signal, a bunch of crabs and a good boy who likes apples.

How long is the Monster Girl Island Prologue?

No official playtime is given. What the developer does say is that the Prologue features roughly a third of the main story, not counting the individual characters' routes. That makes it a meaningful chunk rather than a short demo.

Story

You wake up on an island with no idea how you got there. You soon learn that the residents are not human, and that the mystery goes further: they also arrived under strange circumstances, from another world. Uncovering the island's secrets and getting close to its residents drive the plot.

Monster Girl Island characters

According to Steam, the Prologue lets you meet a nekomata, a mermaid, elves, a slime, a dragon, a kitsune and an arachne, among others. The developer lists a yuki onna, a centaur, a lamia and a tree girl as planned for future releases. Steam's content notes state that all characters are 18+.

Main features

  • Fully 3D world and characters in first person
  • A broad cast of fantasy and sci-fi monster girls
  • Multiple dialogue choices and branching events
  • A costume shop with no microtransactions
  • An original soundtrack and full English audio support
  • Steam features: Steam Cloud and Family Sharing

Visual style

Characters are anime-style 3D models, and the island leans on strong lighting: warm sunsets over the lake, lantern-lit streets at night and a colourful wooden town. For a free game from a small developer, the presentation is the main reason people stay.

Platforms and how to get it

The Steam page for the Prologue is the only official download we could confirm. The official domain redirects away rather than hosting its own store.

What the official build contains

  • Explicit as sold: the free Prologue includes its adult content directly, with no patch. Steam's content notes describe full nudity and detailed sexual acts, ranging from vanilla to light sadomasochism, including watersports.
  • Consent and ages: the same notes say all sexual depictions are consensual and all characters are 18+.
  • Only part of the story: about a third of the main story, with more characters and routes held back for the full game.

That puts it in two of our lists: the best free adult games and the broader adult games on Steam roundup.

System requirements

  • OS: Windows 10, with a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: DirectX 9
  • Storage: 6 GB

The developer adds that you can "probably run this on very low end PCs" by lowering settings, turning off grass and reducing draw distance.

Is Monster Girl Island free?

The Prologue is: it costs nothing on Steam and has no microtransactions in its costume shop. The full game is a different matter. The developer says it will not be free, and no price has been announced on Steam. For how free builds and paid releases usually relate, see our free vs paid adult games comparison.

Is it safe to download?

Get the Prologue from Steam, which is the only official source we could confirm. Sites offering a "full version" or a newer build as a free download are not official, and since the full game has no public store release, anything claiming to be it deserves suspicion. Our guide to Steam adult game safety explains what to look out for.

Latest version and updates

We could not confirm the current state of the full game. On Steam, the last update post for the Prologue dates from June 22, 2019, and the most recent announcement, from March 2020, is about a guest appearance in another game. We have not verified any newer build, so we do not quote a version number or a release date for the full game.

FAQ

Is Monster Girl Island finished?

No. Only the Prologue is released. The developer described the full game as a paid release that "won't be finished for a while", and we could not verify its current status.

When is the Monster Girl Island full release?

We could not find a confirmed date on any official page. Steam only lists the Prologue, so treat any date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.

Is Monster Girl Island uncensored?

Yes, the free Prologue on Steam includes its explicit content as sold. No patch is needed.

Is there a Mac version?

No. Steam lists Windows 10, 64-bit only. Our Mac guide covers general options, but there is no official Mac build.

How much of the story is in the Prologue?

Roughly a third of the main story, per the developer, not counting the individual characters' routes.

Which monster girls can you meet?

In the Prologue: a nekomata, a mermaid, elves, a slime, a dragon, a kitsune, an arachne and others. A yuki onna, a centaur, a lamia and a tree girl are planned for later.

Final verdict

As a free download, the Prologue is easy to recommend: a good-looking 3D island, a big cast and branching conversations, with nothing to buy. Its rating from more than 16,000 players backs that up. Just go in knowing it is a large first slice of a game whose full release we could not confirm.
