In short

  • What it is: a pen-and-paper style tactical RPG with a management layer and faction politics, plus romance scenes with your party.
  • Who it's for: players who want real turn-based combat and choices in an adult game, and can live with modest presentation.
  • Price: $19.99 on Steam or itch.io (regular price, September 2026). The optional Lore Book is $6.99.
  • Status and platforms: released on Steam September 30, 2022; the base game is finished (version 1.11 on itch.io). Windows only.
  • Big pro / big con: a rare adult game with actual strategy and four campaign paths, but it looks and feels low-budget.

What is Memoirs of a Battle Brothel?

It is a narrative-driven, turn-based tactical RPG by A Memory of Eternity, published together with TinyHat Studios. The setting is MoonFall, a cyberpunk island city-state ruled by crime syndicates and nobles. You are a Facilitator for the Courtesan's Guild: part administrator, part mercenary, part free agent.

The twist is that the Guild's members are trained for combat as well as for their day jobs, so the people you manage are also your squad. Steam users rate it "Very Positive" (85% of 225 reviews), and it holds 4.5 out of 5 stars from 31 ratings on itch.io.

Characters in sexual content are consenting adults (and, per the Steam descriptor, "the occasional robot").

Gameplay

Memoirs splits your time between three activities that feed each other: fighting, running the Guild Hall and choosing sides in the city's politics.

Turn-based combat inside a shop: a party member casts Memory Blast, with each fighter's HP, SP and MP on the right

The loop, concretely

  • Build your Facilitator. Pick a background and goals, then one of four classes, each with two subclasses (eight in total).
  • Take a job. Story missions push the plot; between them, free-roam play lets you accept contracts or ambush couriers around MoonFall.
  • Fight it out on a grid. Combat is turn-based and tactical, with positioning, skills and a lot of items. You can view the map from isometric, 3D or 2D perspectives.
  • Get paid and reinvest. The in-game clock mainly tracks when your salary arrives (the developer says there is no time pressure). You spend on facilities and upgrades for the Guild Hall and its staff.
  • Manage people. Companions in the brothel have trust values. According to the developer, buying gifts from the shop Cellerdown raises their trust, which answers the common question of how to raise trust in Battle Brothel after a wrong dialogue pick.
  • Pick your allies. Factions react to what you do, and your standing decides which campaign paths open up.
A Reach Attack in the Guild's hall: damage numbers pop over enemies while a downed ally's stats show bottom left

Four campaign paths and the endings

The developer lists four campaign paths, and you can play any or all of them. Each leads to its own endgame scenario:

  • The syndicate route: win favour with the island's largest crime syndicate.
  • The mercenary route: join forces with a foreign mercenary company.
  • The vigilante route: hunt a notorious serial killer with the city's vigilantes.
  • The conspiracy route: get pulled into an ancient conspiracy hidden by an extranational agency.

The Battle Brothel endings also judge what kind of leader you were: the store names "Unifier" and "Usurper" as two of the possible outcomes for the Guild.

Story and tone

The writing mixes noir crime, cyberpunk and a touch of cosmic horror. The itch.io page sums up the influences as Firefly's Companions, Sin City, Shadowrun and The Last Sovereign. Dialogue is crude and often funny; expect swearing and violence typical of RPGs.

Romance scenes unlock with party members as relationships grow. They are part of the reward structure rather than the whole point, which is what separates it from most games with "brothel" in the name. If you want the pure management version of the idea, our Brothel Tycoon review covers a tycoon game with no combat at all.

Main features

  • Character creation with backgrounds, goals, four classes and eight subclasses
  • Turn-based tactical combat with a large item pool
  • Guild Hall management: add and upgrade facilities, build upgrades for your staff
  • Faction diplomacy that reacts to your actions
  • Four campaign paths with unique endgame scenarios
  • Free-roam contracts between story missions
  • Romance scenes with your team members

Visual style

Exploration and combat use small pixel-art sprites on tiled maps, while scenes and portraits use anime-style illustrations. The developer built it in RPG Maker MV with plugins for 3D maps and tactical battles, and freely admits the result is rough in places. The minimum specs (a Pentium III and Windows Vista) tell you how light it is.

Platforms and how to get it

You can buy it from two official stores: Steam, and the official Battle Brothel itch.io page, which sells a direct Windows download (version 1.11, 1.4 GB) for $19.99 or more. There is no Battle Brothel Mac or Linux build on either store, so Mac owners need a Windows setup.

The developer has moved on. A testing demo for the Battle Brothel sequel, Vampire Syndicate, was announced in the game's Steam news on June 26, 2025. No release date has been given.

FAQ

Is Memoirs of a Battle Brothel finished?

Yes. The itch.io page says base game development is finished and lists version 1.11. The developer is now working on a new project, Vampire Syndicate.

How many endings does it have?

There are four campaign paths, each with a unique endgame scenario, and the Guild's fate also depends on your choices (the store mentions "Unifier" and "Usurper" outcomes).

What are the Battle Brothel classes?

Four classes with two subclasses each, eight in total, on top of a background and goals you choose at character creation.

Is there a Battle Brothel Mac version?

No. Both Steam and itch.io offer Windows only.

What is the Lore Book DLC?

A $6.99 digital book (PDF, 120+ pages) about MoonFall's factions, powers and characters. It is supplemental reading, not game content.

Is Battle Brothel worth it?

If you want strategy and choices with your adult content, yes: few games combine tactical combat, management and faction politics like this. If visuals matter most, it will disappoint.

Final verdict

Memoirs is proof that an adult game can have real mechanics. Tactical fights, a Guild Hall to grow and factions to play against each other give it more game than most of its peers, and four campaign paths give it replay value. The presentation is plain and the price is not low, but it is complete and honest about what it is.
