How we picked these free adult RPG games

An RPG made the list if you can play a real, current version today without paying: quests, stats, combat or character building, not just a demo. That gives two very different groups. The first four are free text RPGs funded by backers, where money only buys you content sooner. The last four are free-to-play live-service games, where money buys progress.

The public version is 0.9.8, and backers on Patreon and SubscribeStar get builds a little earlier. The Steam copy (Early Access) adds achievements and Steam Cloud.

It is the most structured free RPG here: classes, gear, companions, map exploration and turn-based party combat, with character portraits alongside the text. Content is wide-ranging, including monster-girl and furry characters, transformation and scenes tied to winning or losing fights. On a Mac, use the browser version.

Trials in Tainted Space is the widest free option for platforms: a browser version plus downloads for Windows, Linux, macOS and Android (ARM and x86 APKs). You play the heir to a galactic company, chasing your late father's probes across new planets before a rival cousin gets there first.

The public build is 0.9.165. Some content is marked "Backer Exclusive" first, and changelogs arrive several times a month. Players often call it sprawling and hard to get into. Many fetishes can be switched off in the settings, but it is explicit throughout.

Lilith's Throne

Lilith's Throne is free with no locked tier at all; SubscribeStar support is optional, and the public code is on GitHub. You are pulled into an alternate London ruled by demons, then explore on a tile map, fight turn-based battles and manage a very detailed body and clothing system.

Its content settings let you switch off a lot of themes, which matters here, because the default range is wide. The developer still calls it alpha (version 0.4.11.9). Windows has an .exe; on Mac and Linux you run a .jar that needs Java and JavaFX installed.

Best for

Players who want maximum control over both their character and the content.

Corruption of Champions

The original Corruption of Champions is fully free and finished (version 1.0.2). You are sent into a demon-ruled realm as a sacrifice, and a corruption stat shapes your options and endings. Fenoxo's page has a "Play in Window" browser version, an Android APK and the original SWF.

It is a Flash-era game with almost no art, and players often call the random encounters grindy. Non-consensual encounters are tied to losing fights, with fewer toggles than the sequel. Play it for history, or if you simply like pure text.

Project QT mixes puzzle battles with turn-based team combat. You summon and collect heroines, level and evolve them, and join timed live events; relationship progress unlocks animated scenes. It runs in a PC or mobile browser through Nutaku, or through Nutaku's Android APK.

The paywall is gacha summoning plus optional purchases, and a common complaint is that progress slows without spending. It needs a Nutaku account and a connection, and it has been running since May 2019.

Comix Harem

Comix Harem is a parody harem RPG in a "mirror universe" of comic-book heroines and villains. Story missions play as visual novel scenes, and each recruited character is a unit you level, equip and raise in affection. Battles are stat-driven and include leaderboards against other players.

New characters come from missions and from randomized "Pachinko" draws, which is where the money goes. Players of Kinkoid's games often say the automatic combat has little depth. A Steam version is listed but still unreleased.

Gay Harem

The paywall is the same too: Epic, Event and Mythic draws and a premium currency, with timer-gated progress that players often call grindy.
