ReleasedReviewHuniePop 2: Double Date
Windows, Mac$19.99
HuniePop is HuniePot's 2015 dating sim in which every date is a match-3 puzzle. It is a paid, finished game at $9.99 on Steam (regular price, September 2026) for Windows, Mac and Linux. The Steam build needs a free official patch, linked from the game's own website, to show the adult content.

In short
HuniePop is a dating sim made and published by HuniePot. The HuniePop game came out on January 19, 2015 and describes itself as a "gameplay first" mix of dating sim and puzzle game, with light RPG elements and visual novel presentation. Besides Steam, the official site links GOG, Humble Store, MangaGamer, Nutaku and FAKKU.
It remains one of the best-rated adult games on Steam. The review summary reads "Overwhelmingly Positive" from 31,668 user reviews, a remarkable figure for a small studio's debut.
Short answer on whether it holds up: yes, if you want a puzzle game first. The dating layer is a comedic frame for the puzzles, not a story you play for the writing. For story-led options, our guide to adult dating sims has better picks.
You spend your days travelling between locations, talking to characters and buying gifts, and your nights on dates. Each date is a match-3 board, and you win it by filling an affection meter before you run out of moves.

Our take: the puzzles are the reason to play. Once you learn which tokens each character likes and which gifts to hold back, a tough date turns into a satisfying bit of planning. If you only want the unlocks, the difficulty will feel like a gate.
After a clumsy attempt to pick up Kyu, a love fairy in disguise, the player gets taken under her wing for dating lessons. Kyu then sends you out to meet eight women, each with her own personality, preferences and style, plus several secret characters to unlock. All characters are adults.

The story is thin on purpose. HuniePot itself calls the writing "abrasive", and it is crude, fast and joke-heavy. Some players love the tone and some find it grating; we think it suits the arcade structure, but it is the thing most likely to put you off. A February 2015 update added an ending scene after players asked for more closure.
The art is bright, clean 2D in an anime-influenced style, with painted backgrounds and a glossy interface built around the in-game HunieBee phone. It still looks good more than a decade later, largely because the style never chased realism.

On content: Steam's notes list frequent nudity, sexual dialogue and scenes, and references to drug and alcohol use. We keep this review non-explicit; the adult material is mostly in the unlockable CG gallery and depends on the patch described below.
Steam lists Windows, macOS and Linux, and the HuniePop Linux build is something the sequel no longer offers. The minimum spec is modest: Windows XP or later, 2 GB of RAM and 1 GB of storage, so almost any computer will run it.
| Question | Steam build |
|---|---|
| Full game, all dates and characters | Yes |
| Adult content out of the box | No, the Steam build is censored |
| How to add it | A free official patch, linked as "Patch" on huniepop.com |
| Paid adult DLC | None; the two Steam extras are a soundtrack and an art collection |
So is HuniePop uncensored on Steam? Not as sold. HuniePot's own 2015 update notes refer to censored and uncensored builds, and the official site links the HuniePop patch for Steam owners. The link points to a page on teamhijack.com; we could not load that page for this review, so follow the link from huniepop.com rather than a search result.
No. It costs $9.99 on Steam (regular price, September 2026), and the patch from the official site is free. Two optional extras are sold on Steam:
| Steam extra | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| HuniePop Original Soundtrack | $3.99 | All 23 compositions from the game |
| HuniePop Official Digital Art Collection | $3.99 | Concept, in-game and promotional art in high resolution; no gameplay |
Prices are regular Steam prices, September 2026. Neither extra is needed to play the whole game.
Stay inside official channels. Buy the game from Steam or one of the stores listed on huniepop.com, and take the patch only from the link on that site. Any "unlocked" build or patch from elsewhere is an unknown file, and we would not run it. Our explainer on whether Steam adult games are safe covers what the platform does and does not check.
The game is finished. The last version-numbered update in HuniePot's Steam news is the Valentine's Day update, v1.2.0, from February 14, 2015, which added the ending scene. Later small builds may exist, but we could not verify any. HuniePot's news since then has been about its other games.
The 2021 sequel keeps the match-3 core but puts two dates on the board at once and adds Stamina and Baggage systems, which makes it the harder and more strategic game. It costs $19.99 and runs on Windows and Mac, with no Linux build. The first game is cheaper, simpler and easier to recommend as a starting point. Our HuniePop 2: Double Date review covers the sequel in full, and the HuniePot studio page lists everything else they have made.
Not out of the box. The Steam build is censored, and the official website links a free patch for it. Get that patch only from the link on huniepop.com.
From the "Patch" link on the official site, huniepop.com. It points to a page on teamhijack.com. We have not tested the file, so we do not publish install steps.
Yes to both. Steam lists Windows, macOS and Linux for the first game. The sequel dropped the Linux build.
Two optional Steam extras: the Original Soundtrack and the Official Digital Art Collection, each $3.99 (regular price, September 2026). Neither adds gameplay, and there is no paid adult DLC.
HuniePot does not publish an official playtime, so we will not quote a number. Length depends on how quickly you win dates and how many of the secret characters and CG images you chase.
For $9.99, yes, if you like puzzles. The match-3 system is smarter than it looks, and Steam users rate it Overwhelmingly Positive. If crude humour or puzzle difficulty put you off, skip it.

HuniePop is still the best argument that an adult game can be carried by its gameplay. The free-movement match-3 is clever, the gifts and traits give it depth, and the price is low. The humour is loud and the patch step on Steam is an extra hoop, but it is free and official. Start here before the sequel, or browse the full list of games we review for something different.
