Content warning. This game is for adults only. Corruption, coercion and non-consensual or dubious-consent situations are central themes, not side content. It also includes explicit sexual content with multiple partners, including fantasy non-human species, and alcohol and drug use. If those themes are not for you, this game is not for you.

In short

  • What it is: a turn-based corruption RPG by Remtairy, built in RPG Maker MV, where the adult content is part of the combat system.
  • Who it's for: players who enjoy management-heavy, slow-burn RPGs and are comfortable with the themes in the warning above.
  • Price: $29.99 on Steam and itch.io (regular price, September 2026), with a free demo on Steam.
  • Status and platforms: mostly finished apart from bug fixes as of version 1.3.1 (September 2025), Windows only.
  • Big pro / big con: "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam for its distinctive systems, but players often mention a steep learning curve and grinding.

What is Karryn's Prison?

It is a corruption RPG built in RPG Maker MV and made and published by Remtairy. It released on Steam on December 15, 2021, and the developer described it as mostly finished, apart from bug fixes, in September 2025. It is also sold directly on Remtairy's itch.io page at the same price.

What sets it apart is structure. Most adult RPGs keep the fights and the adult scenes separate. Here, the adult content is part of combat itself, driven by stats, which turns what could be a gallery into a system you have to learn.

It is one of the best-received adult games on Steam: the review summary reads "Overwhelmingly Positive" from 4,548 user reviews.

Gameplay

At its core this is a turn-based RPG. Karryn fights inmates across the prison's floors, and there are no visual-novel cutaways: every adult scene plays out inside the battle system.

The key systems

  • Willpower and Desire. These two stats decide whether Karryn resists or gives in during a fight. Managing them is the real tactical layer.
  • Passives. As Karryn gains experience, she earns Passives that permanently change her behaviour and vulnerabilities. This is how the game tracks long-term character change, and it means your run evolves in ways you cannot fully undo.
  • Edicts. Between fights, the Edicts system acts as a management layer. You spend resources to set prison policy, budget and upgrades, and those choices shape the fights ahead.
  • Side jobs and optional areas. Extra activities sit outside the main prison floors and add variety to the loop.

How demanding it is

The combination is more demanding than it first appears. Balancing Edicts against your budget while keeping Karryn's stats where you want them is a genuine planning puzzle.

The developer itself warns that this is not a game for quick gratification, and players commonly mention a steep learning curve and grinding to unlock content. Take that warning at face value: if you want scenes on demand, this design will frustrate you.

Story

Karryn is appointed the new Chief Warden of a notoriously lax prison that has just been through a riot. Her job is to restore order among the inmates. Over the course of the game, her own resistance and desires shift, and that change is the actual arc of the story.

The narrative is delivered through the systems more than through long scenes. Whether Karryn holds firm or changes depends on how you play, which is why the Passives and stat systems matter so much. All characters are adults.

Main features

  • Adult content integrated into combat, with no visual-novel cutaways
  • The Edicts system for running the prison's policy, budget and upgrades
  • Willpower, Desire and Passives systems that track long-term character change
  • Steam features: full controller support, Steam Workshop, Steam Cloud, Achievements and Trading Cards
  • Languages on Steam: English and Japanese (both with full audio), Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Spanish (Spain)
  • Three paid DLCs on Steam, all optional (prices in the table below)

Visual style

This is a 2D game made in RPG Maker MV, and the art is concentrated in the battle screen, since that is where every adult scene takes place. Expect menus, stats and character art rather than long animated sequences between fights.

Performance

Performance is the practical concern. The Steam page warns that RPG Maker MV runs poorly on older PCs, and the minimum spec asks for a dedicated graphics card and 8 GB of RAM, which is steep for the engine. Check your hardware, or try the demo first.

Platforms and how to get it

The game is Windows only on both official stores. There is no Mac or Linux build.

What the Karryn's Prison Steam version contains

  • The full adult game. You do not need a patch or a paid unlock.
  • Confirmed by Steam: the app's content descriptors describe the explicit sexual content in the Steam build itself.
  • DLC is optional: the three DLCs add extras, not the adult content.

That puts it among the straightforward entries on our list of adult games sold on Steam.

Steam or itch.io?

  • Steam gives you the demo, Workshop support, Cloud saves and automatic updates.
  • The Karryn's Prison itch.io page sells the game directly from the developer.

If you are weighing the two in general, our Steam vs itch.io comparison covers the trade-offs, and the itch.io adult games list shows what else is worth buying there.

Is Karryn's Prison free?

No. The full game costs $29.99 on Steam and on itch.io (regular price, September 2026). Steam offers a free demo, which we recommend given both the performance warning and how particular the design is. The three DLCs are paid extras:

Is it safe to download?

Buy the Karryn's Prison game from Steam or from Remtairy's official itch.io page. Those are the developer's own channels, and they are the only sources we recommend. Steam also handles updates and Workshop content for you. If you buy on itch.io and are unsure how to install a downloaded Windows game, our Windows install guide covers the basics.

Skip unofficial downloads and "full unlocked" builds. We cannot know what is in them, and they will not receive the developer's bug fixes.

Karryn's Prison latest version and updates

The last Karryn's Prison update we could confirm is version 1.3.1, announced on Steam on September 30, 2025. That announcement covered three things:

  • Development status: the developer said development is "now mostly finished except for bug fixes", so treat the game as complete.
  • Physical edition: a Japan-only physical edition.
  • Next game: Remtairy's next title, Amelya Opus.

Final verdict

It is one of the few adult games where the systems and the adult content are genuinely the same thing, and its Steam rating reflects how well that works for its audience. It is complex, slow by design and hardware-hungry, and its themes are a hard line for many players; read the content warning above before buying. If you are comfortable with that and enjoy management-heavy RPGs, it is among the most thought-through games in the genre. Compare it with other NSFW RPG titles, read our Subverse review for a very different take on adult RPG design, or return to the full catalog.
